A Place to Call Home
Over the past few years, I have worked really hard to start a following on Instagram. What began as a page to inform others on the things that I personally had difficulty learning as a collector, turned into a place where I would end up showcasing an ever growing collection of books from around the world. As time passed, I gained some amazing friendships with people in this community. I've shared vacations with them at The Celebration of Harry Potter in Orlando, spent nights with them in order to camp out and meet Jo Rowling, but mostly I have found a group of people that share my passion. Being a collector has evolved into way more than I ever thought it would. I had no idea how much it would come to mean to me, and how much of my life and heart would revolve around it.
As many of my followers know, this year has been quite difficult for me. What started out to be a whirlwind of ideas (starting my website and pushing my brand) at the beginning of the year came to quite the crashing halt when "adulting" took over to the max. I got engaged to the love of my life this past October (holy crap, it has already been almost a year since then) and we are really delving deep into this whole grown up thing. Our wedding is planned for next August and in March of this past year, we decided that we wanted to buy a house together.
This may come to you as a shock, but as a Special Education teacher in a private school specializing in Autism, you don't make all that much money. Any extra ounce of my pay check that I would normally go toward books, was now going into a savings account for my new house. It has been such an insane road, but the adventure from March to August has brought me to a place where I am finally happy with my book collecting adventure.
Putting on hold something you are so passionate about is detrimental. It sounds almost pathetic, but when things came down to it, I was borderline depressed with the fact that I used to be so active with my collection, and now I was losing myself because I had to prioritize for my home. In the end, things paid off so much better than I could have imagined, because I now have an entire room in my house dedicated to Harry Potter and my collection. I am slowly but surely adding things, and things are still getting pieced together bit by bit, but I am so thrilled to be back in this game!
Thanks so much to everyone that has stuck with me on this insane adventure. I promise that there will be exciting things to come!
